APD: Three arrested for trailer thefts

ALBANY, Ga. — The thefts of five trailers from Albany, Dougherty County and Lee County led to the arrest of three Albany residents Monday, according to an Albany Police Department report.

Maurice Dante Williams, 37, and Donnesa Walker, 19, were each charged with felony theft by taking in connection with the thefts of five trailers, said Detective Tim Harvey.

Willie B. Sanders, 50, is charged with felony theft by receiving, Harvey said. Sanders had a trailer stored on his property at the time of his arrest.

The utility trailers ranged in value from $2,000 to $6,000, Harvey said. Police also recovered other stolen materials, such as license plates and an ASA .38-caliber handgun, he added.

“Many of the trailers were hooked to a vehicle but not locked. One was stolen from the Home Depot lot. More charges are pending, including gun charges against the suspects,” Harvey said. “We’ve been able to jump on this quick enough to put a stop to it.”

However, Harvey said the trio could have stolen many more trailers and sold them to unsuspecting customers.

“People could have been duped into buying stolen materials,” Harvey said. “If you bought a trailer from any of these three, we would like you to come forward.”

According to Harvey, locking the trailers to a vehicle would help deter theft. Making sure the registration decal is on the trailer — not in a glove compartment — would facilitate the return of a recovered stolen trailer.
