RLC Sophomore trio earns postseason honors
Third baseman Tyler O’Daniel (Calvert City, Ky.) was named All-Great Rivers Athletic Conference and National Junior College Athletic Association All-Region XXIV. O’Daniel hit .386 at the third spot in the order. In 158 at bats, he had 61 hits with 44 RBI, 40 runs scored and eight home runs. O’Daniel was also a perfect eight for eight in stolen bases with an on-base percentage of .448. O’Daniel will play on scholarship at the University of Indianapolis next year.
Pitcher Ryan Quick (Mt. Vernon) was named All-GRAC for his performance on the mound as a sophomore this past season at RLC. Quick was 6-3 with a save and ERA of 3.81 in 54.2 innings pitched this past Spring. He allowed only 28 runs – 23 earned – with 41 strikeouts. Quick will play on scholarship next year at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn. Austin Peay was the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference champs last season.
Left-handed pitcher Nathan Dorris (Marion) was selected NJCAA All-Region XXIV Honorable Mention for his rubber work. He was 6-4 with an ERA of 3.76 this past Spring season at Rend Lake. Dorris struck out 66 batters in 62.1 innings. He gave up only 26 earned runs and picked off three base runners. He will be playing on scholarship for the Salukis at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale next year.

IUPUI Jaguars - IUPUI ADDS IAN CHILES TO 2011-12 RECRUITING CLASS
Announced the signing of Ian Chiles (Louisville, Ky./Ballard/Wabash Valley JC) to a departmental grant-in-aid and the guard will join the Jaguars in 2011-12. He is the fourth signee for next year's recruiting class, all hailing from Howard's home state of Kentucky. Chiles will be immediately eligible and have three years remaining. "Ian is a versatile wing that fits the IUPUI mold of athletic, savvy play," Howard said. "He propelled his high school team to a state finals appearance and Wabash Valley to a trip to Hutchinson because he knows how to win. He's one of the most athletic players we will put on the floor and comes from a family that has had great success as student-athletes. At Wabash Valley under legendary coach Dan Sparks, Chiles averaged 11.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game while hitting 50.7 percent from the floor and 70.3 percent from the foul line. He earned Second Team Great Rivers Athletic Conference honors and helped WVC to an NJCAA Tourney berth. In the NJCAA Tournament, he scored a season-high 29 points in the second round game versus Midland College. His previous high was a 26-point effort against John A. Logan on Feb. 12, 2011. At Ballard, he netted 18.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game as a senior, helping Ballard to a 32-5 mark and a state runner-up finish. He was voted First Team All-State and chosen to the 7th Region First Team. He hit 45 percent from the floor and 36 percent from three, while making 71 percent of his free throw attempts. He was chosen to the KOB and LIT All-Tournament Teams and earned a tryout for the Kentucky All-Star Team. He also participated in the East/West All-Star Game following his senior year. His brother Adam originally played at Kentucky for Tubby Smith before completing his college career at Murray State and playing professionally overseas. In addition, his older sister India played softball at the University of Tennessee where she ranks among the school's all-time leaders in games played and stolen bases and was an NFCA First Team All-American.
