Royal Canin: Pet Food Manufacturers

Royal Canin: Pet Food Manufacturers Last year, I switched to offering exclusively Royal Canin veterinary diets and cat food in my veterinary practice. Of all the cat food companies on the market, part of what inspired me to make the switch was the dedication to product quality that they present. The company has many different safety parameters and new technologies in place to ensure that all of their products are of the best quality for our favorite felines.

Royal Canin is devoted to making healthy food for cats that has the best taste, texture, and nutritional ingredients, and is committed to providing these elements with the least risk to your cat’s health.

I’m not the only one who has been impressed by the company's manufacturing process, the standards set at their factories, and their dedication to quality. To date, they are among the pet food manufacturers that have received many certifications from several internationally recognized organizations, including the MARS Quality & Food Safety certification and ISO 14001 certification.

The MARS certification shows their success with pest control and meeting or exceeding metal detection protocols, while the ISO certification demonstrates Royal Canin’s success with use of green technology, meeting environmental sustainability standards, and following up with the continuous improvements in technology to maintain the best operations.

Cat Food Safety: Cat Food Recall Concerns

Particularly in recent years, problems with pet food manufacturing have been a concern for many pet owners and veterinarians. With the number of pet food recall problems recently, pet food manufacturers and consumers alike know that the manufacturing process has never been more important.

Cat food manufacturers have had to issue recalls, most of which arise because of bacteria developing during or after the cooking of the ingredients that go into your cat food. Two common bacteria issues that may create a pet food recall include Listeria and Salmonella. Cat food must be manufactured through a very particular manufacturing process in order for such bacteria growth to be avoided.

Royal Canin pet food is cooked in an extruder, with temperatures high enough to kill the most commonly found bacteria in pet food. Because they control all aspects of the pet food processing, including the monitoring of the extruder, from a control room in the factory, they are further able to decrease the risk of bacterial pet food contamination by limiting human contact during the cooking process.
